The Midland Greenway (formerly Midtown Greenway) is the centerpiece of Gainesville redevelopment efforts south of the Downtown Square. This Urban Brownfields rails-to-trails project follows the north-south route of an abandoned historic railroad line and will be Gainesville's downtown connection to the Highlands to Islands trail system. Biking and pedestrian trails, Skate Park, and public art are just a few of the amenities that make this greenway special. Expansion is in progress and exciting plans are in the near future. Under construction is the Engine 209 Midland Train Park. An Inclusive ADA Playground is being installed January 2022.
Enjoy two miles of tree canopied trails connecting Gainesville Downtown Square to beautiful Lake Lanier through a series of four connecting parks. Visit war memorials, tour the solar system walking trail, relax on lakeside swings, have fun on Gainesville's most popular playground or play a game of tennis.
